Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2021: Introducing the Galaxy S21 5G series and Galaxy Buds Pro
Earlier this month, Samsung announced the date of its next Unpacked event—which was livestreamed tonight (January 14). It was also reported that the South Korean tech giant would be unveiling its latest flagship handset, the Galaxy S21, as well as a new piece of wearable tech.
This came true at tonight’s Everyday Epic Galaxy Unpacked event, where Samsung finally presented the brand new Galaxy S21 5G series and the eagerly awaited wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds Pro.
The Galaxy S21 series includes three new devices: Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and its premium flagship offering, the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
The smartphones come in a range of sleek new colours including a new signature addition: phantom violet, which is expected to be a crowd favourite. Each device is coated with a luxurious haze finish on the back for a sophisticated look and feel.
But the most important question is, when will these new products be launched in Singapore? Both the Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy Buds Pro will be available from January 29.
Pre-order for the Galaxy S21 5G (256GB), Galaxy S21+ 5G (256GB) and Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (256GB and 512GB) is now available at selected online stores including Samsung's online store, Samsung's official store on Lazada and Shopee, major consumer electronics & IT stores, selected authorised mobile retailers and more.
Here’s all you need to know about each product that was launched at the Unpacked event:
Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+
The all-new Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ are Samsung's latest flagship devices that come loaded with state-of-the-art innovations such as a pro-grade camera and the most advanced processor ever in a Galaxy device.
The Galaxy S21 was designed for those who want something that's lighter and more compact, with a 6.2-inch display. It is available in Phantom Gray, Phantom Pink, Phantom Violet and Phantom White. On the other hand, the Galaxy S21+ sports has an expanded 6.7-inch display and a larger battery, which makes it more suitable for gamers and those who enjoy consuming videos on their mobile phones. It comes in Phantom Black, Phantom Silver and Phantom Violet.
As expected, Samsung continues to impress with its pro-grade camera enhancements and video innovations that enable users to capture the best shot. The new Director’s View allows users to view, switch, and select the best shot at once. You can capture a video using both the front and rear cameras at once for real-time reactions with Vlogger View, and preview or change the angle, zoom or go wide without losing any action with Live Thumbnails.
In Portrait Mode, the AI-powered camera uses an improved 3D analysis that more accurately separates the subject from the background. It also brings in options for virtual studio lighting and AI background effects to make sure the subject pops from the frame. This effect works for selfies, too.
The Galaxy S21 range also introduces a new tool to enhance privacy. Users can safely remove location metadata from photos before sharing. With the all-new Private Share function, users can also control who gets access to the content that’s sent, and how long it’s available.
Galaxy S21 Ultra
The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is touted as "Samsung’s best-of-the-best" with its most advanced pro-grade camera system and the brightest, most intelligent display. And for the first time, the popular S Pen experience has been introduced to the Galaxy S series.
It is available in Phantom Black and Phantom Silver and offers improved durability with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, the toughest Gorilla Glass yet.
The device is also the largest member of the Galaxy S21 series with a 6.8-inch Dynamic Amoled 2X display, making it Samsung’s most intelligent screen yet. For the first time, users no longer have to decide between the smoothness of a 120Hz refresh rate and a Quad HD+ display as you can choose both on the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. The screen’s refresh rate adjusts to the content you’re viewing from 10Hz to 120Hz to ensure you enjoy the best image while staying power-efficient to stretch your battery life even further. And just like the Galaxy S21 5G and S21+ 5G, the phone also has Eye Comfort Shield to help reduce eye fatigue, which is especially common among users now as we continue to work remotely on our laptops and mobile phones amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Galaxy S21 Ultra also features the tech giant's most advanced pro-grade camera system. It has a quad rear camera (ultra-wide, wide and dual tele-lenses) that features an upgraded 108MP pro sensor, from which you can capture 12-bit HDR photos with 64 times richer colour data and more than three times wider dynamic range. For the first time on a Galaxy smartphone, you can also shoot in 4K at 60fps across all lenses including front and rear four lenses.
When zooming in, the phone's 100x Space Zoom which is powered by Samsung’s first-ever Dual-tele lens system—one optical 3x and one optical 10x both equipped Dual Pixel (2PD)—makes it possible for users to capture clear shots even when standing far away from the subject.
The phone’s improved Bright Night sensor will also help capture challenging shots taken at night or in a dim setting with greater ease.

Galaxy Buds Pro
The Galaxy Buds Pro is Samsung’s most premium earbuds offering to date. The wireless earbuds—which come in Phantom Violet, Phantom Black and Phantom Silver—feature an immersive sound, superior call quality, intelligent ANC and enhanced connectivity across your devices. The Galaxy Buds Pro also offers a more comprehensive sound, sporting an 11-millimetre woofer for deeper bass and a 6.5-millimetre tweeter for a crisp treble with minimum distortion.
What's most impressive about these earbuds is that it can distinguish between noise and human voices. Switch temporarily to Ambient Sound and reduce media volume when you speak so you can hear conversations without taking out your earbuds.
When fully charged, you get up to eight hours of playback, with an additional 20 hours of reserve power available in the wireless charging case.
In terms of design, the Galaxy Buds Pro feature a more ergonomic form: the shape of the canal-type earbuds improves sound quality and fits into your ears seamlessly. The new design also reduces the contact area between your ear and the bud, improving comfort and minimising any clogged-up feeling.
