Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) has unveiled two new additions to its 49-hectare resort – the Equarius Hotel and Beach Villas. Branded as ‘eco-luxurious’ hotels, they are designed with resort-style architecture that aims to transport guests to “a tropical garden of peace and tranquility that rejuvenates the senses”, according to Tsuyoshi Narita, senior associate of Peridian Asia, the landscape architecture firm appointed for the hotels. “Upon arrival, guests will feel like they are entering a different world, as they are greeted by a splendid avenue of trees on both sides. As the hotel comes into view, they will be awed by two majestic 80- to 100-year old Shorea trees, specially chosen for the arrival area, creating a natural yet ethereal landscape,” says Narita.

The good looks of the 172-room Equarius Hotel and 22-unit Beach Villas can be attributed to renowned names – they are designed and conceptualised by award-winning American architectural firm, Michael Graves & Associates, in collaboration with DP Architects and interior design firms DPD+ and Diana Simpson Design.

The interiors of the Equarius Hotel rooms boast soothing neutral tones in its wallpaper, plush carpets and furniture, which are contrasted with dark and light pine wood to carry through the theme of nature. The walls are also adorned with abstract paintings by artist Laurence Meyer.

Beach Villas adopts a similar neutral palette, offering a modern take on a tropical retreat with clean lines, and light airy spaces designed to optimise views of the sea and surrounding foliage. Each villa includes an outdoor pool pavilion, a pantry, as well as a private spa treatment room, kitchenette and wine cellars in selected categories.

Both hotels offer the signature RWS VIP service provided by a team of butlers, and facilities on the grounds include seven meeting rooms, an event pavilion, a gym, swimming pool, and a new restaurant helmed by award-winning chef, Sam Leong, called Forest. Set in a glass house adjacent to the Equarius Hotel Lobby, Forest serves up innovative contemporary Chinese cuisine with a strong Thai influence.
