The idea of ‘Arche’ came before their son Archie’s name, and even before ‘SussexRoyal’

The Sussexes have finally revealed the name to the non-profit organisation they had planned to launch after leaving their senior royal roles.

Christened ‘Archewell’, the organisation’s projects will reportedly include “organising and conducting support groups for persons in need” such as “emotional counselling” and “coordinating social, personal care, and psychological services”; a website “in the field of nutrition, general health and mental health”; as well as sharing “education and training materials” in the form of self-published books, podcasts, films, seminars, workshops, and more.

Responding to the Telegraph, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared that they had not planned to launch details of the non-profit yet.

“Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global covid-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be.”

“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action’. We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters,” they said.

“Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon. We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”

The news comes after the couple bade goodbye to 11.3 million followers on the @sussexroyal Instagram page on March 31, the day their royal duties officially came to an end. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be allowed to use the word ‘royal’ in their personal work henceforth.

Harry and Meghan are now living in Los Angeles, where they intend to base their operations. The paperwork to trademark Archewell for its projects has been filed in the United States, along with items like clothing and stationery which have been trademarked as a protective measure.
