The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles has unveiled a collaborative collection of artist-designed face masks with proceeds from each purchase directly supporting the museum during Covid-19 operations. The museum is aiming to raise urgent funds while sending out messages of positivity as the world continues to battle this health crisis.

Known as the MOCA Mask Collection, the nine limited-production, artist-designed face masks include work by Virgil Abloh, Mark Grotjahn, Alex Israel, Barbara Kruger, Yoko Ono, Catherine Opie, Pipilotti Rist, Hank Willis Thomas, and The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts.

"Wearing a mask communicates that you're mindful of protecting others, your community, and yourself," said MOCA Director Klaus Biesenbach in a press statement.

"I am so grateful to the artists participating in the #MOCAmasks initiative. Being a responsible and caring citizen amongst citizens just became even more beautiful because of these artists' contributions!"

Given the importance of wearing a mask to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the trendy masks were designed with comfort and ease of wear in mind. Most of the masks are made from 100 per cent, they feature one closed loop at the top, along with ties at the bottom that can be adjusted to fit most people over the age of 10. Crafted with two layers of fabric, the mask features a pocket on the inside for adding your own filter to extra protection.

While all masks are thoughtfully designed and executed, stand out coverings include Yoko Ono’s mind-bending A Piece of the Sky; Virgil Abloh’s blacked out Still Speaks Loudly; and Andy Warhol’s Flowers.

The new masks are all made in Los Angeles and are available on the official MOCA website. Customers in the Asia Pacific region can make their purchase via the Hong Kong-based K11 e-shop.
