Mclaren Debuts the Limited-Edition and Ultra-Expensive Supercar, Elva, in Singapore

In the world of supercars, McLaren Automotive is a newcomer but that has not stopped it from grabbing headlines with its high price tag and exclusivity

The Mclaren Elva, a limited-edition supercar made its debut in Singapore recently. The Elva is a part of what Mclaren calls its 'Ultimate Series', at the very pinnacle of all Mclaren's road-going cars. Just 149 examples of the Mclaren Elva will be offered for sale to customers, making it one of the rarest McLarens produced.

Draped in "Gulf Livery" by MSO (Mclaren Special Operations) represents the celebration of the renewed relationship between Mclaren and the Gulf Oil brand which last collaborated in racing during the 1960s and 1970s when founder, the late Bruce Mclaren, was still racing in the Can-Am series to Canadian-American Challenge Cup.

With an almost limitless degree of personalisation available from MSO, each owner can create a car with its own unique identity. Under the new partnership, Mclaren Automotive customers have the opportunity to commission Gulf-liveried cars directly from MSO.

The Elva follows the Mclaren P1, Mclaren Senna and Speedtail in Mclaren’s Ultimate Series, and it forges links with Mclaren’s past, present and future with a name and style that pays homage to the Mclaren-Elva sports racers of the 1960s. Those were among the first sports cars designed and raced by Bruce Mclaren and the company he founded; the latest Elva evokes the true spirit of driving enjoyment symbolised by this era.

Keeping with Mclaren’s commitment to super-lightweight engineering, the Elva roadster retains the lightweight construction philosophy of its forebear and incorporates cutting-edge automotive technology. The body design of the screenless, roofless Elva, for example, incorporates an innovative Active Air Management System (AAMS) that creates an invisible air canopy over the cockpit keeping the occupants relatively draft-free.

Propulsion is devoid of anything hybrid or electrical and uses a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 815hp to ensure that the Elva delivers astonishing performance and exceptional levels of driving enjoyment.

In the spirit of paying homage to Mclaren’s rich heritage in racing, a special 720S LeMans edition as well as a limited-edition, competition-inspired 620R was showcased alongside the Elva in Gulf Livery, for the very first time in Singapore.

To ensure the exclusivity of the Elva, it is priced at a staggering $2.8 million before taxes and should one have the resolve to actually register the Mclaren Elva for use in Singapore, the price is $5.5 million without COE.

Should you think that no one would pay such a price, the previous high-water mark of well over $4 million was set by someone who registered the limited-edition Mclaren Senna for use in Singapore.
