Cool is an overused word - but it describes this Williamsburg hotel perfectly. Here are 5 things to know about our stay

While we were in New York to shoot the July issue, the Singapore Tatler team stayed at this ultra-hip hotel. And The William Vale hotel sure knows how to make a statement: the architecture. The restaurants. And oh my, the view...

1/5 First Impressions

Peering above the graffiti walls in Williamsburg, The William Vale is an architecturally-stunning, sleek and sculptural building. Designed by architecture firm Albo Liberis, the distinctive white panels that flank the building almost look like stilts that spell out the initials of William Vale.

At 23 stories high, every one of the 183 rooms boasts impressive views of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The public areas of the property feel like an extension of the Brooklyn community and beyond, and a backyard where many of the borough's locals come to chill out.

2/5 Do Not Disturb

Each room and suite has a balcony that offers a panoramic view of New York City, and the interiors of the rooms are just as stunning. Modern, monochrome, and outfitted with artwork from local artists—the look is clean, tailored and sophisticated.

The star of the show within the entire hotel is the Vale Garden Residence, a duplex loft with a sun-drenched living room and an oversized outdoor space featuring a jacuzzi and lounge area. The extra space is great for private gatherings, intimate parties that can go on late into the night, or just a romantic suite perfect for creating unforgettable memories.

3/5 The Extras

For a picturesque spot to swim at (or to get a sunkissed tan), head to the property’s 60-feet pool. Dubbed the Vale Pool, it’s the longest outdoor pool in Brooklyn and greater New York City area - which makes it an obvious spot to hang out—or be seen at—during the summer. Pack your cutest swimwear, grab a cabana and keep yourself hydrated with cocktails by the pool.

4/5 Food & Drink

The William Vale’s three dining destinations are distinctive and not to be missed. Here’s why you should head there:

Best view

For a breathtaking 360 view of New York City's skyline, enjoy light bites and drinks at Westlight, the hotel's rooftop bar on the 22nd floor. Don't forget to make a reservation, as it can get extremely popular on weekends, with young and trendy guests waiting in long lines that snake around the facade of the hotel. It can get windy up there too, so bring a jacket.

Best dip

It’s worth making a trip all the way to Leuca, a Southern Italian-inspired restaurant, even if you’re not staying at The William Vale or Brooklyn itself. Trust us when we say that the ricotta, hot honey and garlic dip is life-changing. You’ll lick the bowl clean. The menu is filled with lots of other Italian goodies like pasta, pizza as well as seasonal specials.

Best Instagram-worthy spot

Need that perfect #OOTD shot for the 'gram? Visit Vale Park, an elevated mini park accompanied by an urban garden and Mister Dips, a burger joint that serves out of a retrofitted 1974 Airstream RV. The burgers are decent, while the ice-cream cones (aka dairy dips at the joint) are fun and highly Instagrammable. Like every good burger joint in America, they have cute merch too.

5/5 Tatler Tip

We booked our stay at The William Vale through Porter & Sail, an app where one can make hotel reservations. It works as a digital hotel concierge as well. While there are plenty of travel apps around, we really liked its stylish design and authentic recommendations with insider information from other travellers.

Through the Porter & Sail app, we felt like our own travel guide as we conveniently found cool eats and trendy shops on the go, without having to turn to Google for help at all.
