This high-rise apartment at Orchard Residences not only enjoys picturesque panoramas of the bustling metropolis—it’s also a stone’s throw away from the hottest spots in the city. But what’s more envy-inducing than its location is its interior.

Designed by Michael Ong and Jeremy Tay, co-founders of Prestige Global Designs, it functions as a holiday home, inspired by the travels of the homeowners—in particular, the rustic, romantic destination of Nice, France. The design duo came up with a contemporary cottage-style design, carving out an urban retreat that is “cosy and relaxing, yet still maintaining the luxurious feel”.

Fashionable twist

Soft hues of white, beige and grey, offset by accents of dark wood, dominate the backdrop of this dreamy abode. Wooden beams were also installed on the living room ceiling to recreate the exposed trusses of a cottage. Lending a touch of luxury, the space features designer pieces from Louis Vuitton, such as the origami-inspired foldable stools and a coffee table that comprises a glass top and the trunk luggage as its base.

Work of art

Opposite the lounge is a dining space with an alcove in the wall, which the designer turned into a seating area built-in with a leather sofa. It not only maximises the footprint of the living room, but also gives the nook a practical purpose.

Hanging above the sofa is a bespoke mirror feature, made of two layers—one that covers the surface of the alcove, and a horizontal piece that bleeds into the adjoining walls. A third layer of rattan and metal discs adorning the horizontal mirror forms a contemporary artwork designed by Prestige Global Designs, which adds a touch of glamour to the interior.

Verdant touch

Full-length windows span an entire wall in the living and dining room, bathing the interiors with an abundance of light. They also offer direct access to the balcony—a spacious spot with a vertical hanging garden. The design duo created a solid wood lattice structure on which to hang potted plants, which also features an automated irrigation system that waters the plants regularly.

Suite dreams

At the master bedroom, a tranquil ambience reigns, with curtains, a runner and a collection of cushions to accentuate its hotel-inspired look. In lieu of the typical bedhead, the design firm opted for an array of artworks to complete the restful setting.

Chic alcove

White brick-like feature walls and solid teak elements (such as this built-in bookshelf) amplify the cottage-style look, artfully abstract yet understated area rugs add a soft touch of luxury. “The reading corner is one of my client’s favourite spots—indeed, this is a beautiful home retreat,” Tay says.
