Here’s everything you need to know about the newly launched Ferrari 812 Competizione and Ferrari SF90 Spider

Ferrari recently released their new limited-edition, special-series cars—the 812 Competizione that is derived from their 812 Superfast, and a spectacular Targa-top version, the 812 Competizione A (A for Aperta, meaning open). The 812 Competizione will be limited to 999 cars and the Aperta version at 599 cars.

Their claim to fame is the V12 engine. The latest V12 will now rev to a stunning 9500 rpm, making this the highest-revving production engine in production today. Power rises to 830 hp, as it is meant for the track where high-speed aerodynamics will create 10 per cent more downforce than the 812 Superfast to help it stick on the track.

The maximum speed of the 812 Competizione is over 340 km/h, and it sprints to 100 km/h in an impressive 2.85 seconds. Reaching 200 km/h will take just 7.5 seconds.

The president of Ferrari Far East and Middle East, Dieter Knechtel, has this to add: “The 812 Competizione and Competizione A are limited-edition, special-series cars designed specifically for and dedicated to collectors and purists, which means that all the cars are sold out.  However, the brand continues to have a strong and wide product range that covers the V8 and V12 categories, with GT and sports cars that come with naturally aspirated, turbocharged or hybrid engines. There is a Ferrari for every Ferraristi. So, if the client is looking for an extreme car that gives maximum performance and is fun to drive, in addition to a PHEV, then the SF90 Spider is definitely the car to go for.”

The SF90 is Ferrari’s first electrified production car with a system power of 1000 hp, with 780 hp coming from the turbocharged V8 which drives the rear wheels. The 220 hp electric motor drives the front wheels and can also recover energy during braking. If noise is an issue where one lives, the EV-only (battery) mode will allow a range of 25 km or a top speed of 135 km/h.

Ferrari has worked hard to keep the overall weight down and has only added on 100kg due to the hardware for the retractable hardtop and chassis reinforcement. Its 0-100 km/h time equals that of the SF90 Stradale at just 2.5 seconds, but in 7 seconds, it will reach 200 km/h, a scant 0.3 seconds slower—still astoundingly fast in anyone books. Its top speed is 340 km/h.

Being an open-top opens a whole new vista to the drive experience and Ferrari has fine-tuned the exhaust sounds by piping it into the cabin mechanically via what they call the “hot tube system”. This retains the classic Ferrari wail, while lowering overall drive-by noise.

Rather than cannibalise sales from the SF90 Stradale, the SF90 Spider appeals to a different clientele looking for open-top motoring. Prices start from $1,818,000, without COE.
