For couples, double-basin vanities are a good option as these can quell pet peeves about grooming habits and give you the personal space that you need.

Some suitable designs for double vanities include the Damask vanity from Kohler featured above—a wall-hung vanity inspired by colonial American architecture. It's available in an array of premium hardwoods including walnut and white oak. It's paired with the sleek Purist collection also from Kohler, which features a streamlined form and a selection of polished and brushed metal finishes.

Designed by Evocateurs, this apartment's ensuite bathroom has been completely reconfigured—all the existing flooring and fixtures were revamped.

The window-facing his and hers washbasins were relocated to face the wall, where they could follow the curve to make better use of the corners. Metal and onyx elements have been incorporated into the design to contrast the light grey marble and brilliant white bathroom fixtures.

Although perfect symmetrical arrangements can be pleasing to the eye (as pictured above), Nikki Hunt, principal of Design Intervention, says that there are no rules stating that twin vanities need to be identical. These could be customising the vanity cabinets to better suit your storage needs, or additional shelving for daily items.

“In expansive master bathrooms, the vanities can be customised to address the individual needs of both the husband and the wife,” says Hunt.
