The first ever Abbas retrospective at the National Museum of Singapore showcases over 130 visually striking black and white photographs

Experience a surreal journey in the exploration of topics such war, major political events and religion, as only the first ever retrospective of critically acclaimed photographer, Abbas, can provide. Now on at the National Museum of Singapore, Abbas, 45 Years in Photography offers a view of the world from the inimitable photographer's perspective and some glimpse into his personal life, featuring over 130 striking black and white photographs and four audio-visual clips. As a photojournalist, Abbas' work has taken him around the world to wars and revolutions in countries like Biafra, Bangladesh, Northern Ireland, Vietnam, the Middle East, Chile, Cuba, and South Africa during apartheid. He became a member of the prestigious photo agency, Magnum Photos, in 1981.

The retrospective is comprised of nine sections, starting with his early works on wars during the 1960s and 1970s, through explorations of various cultures and religions, and even allowing us into his personal life with photographs of his grandchildren. His travel diaries and magazine tear sheets also offer deeper insight into the motivation behind his work.
