A Sophisticated Splendour

Award-winning interior design firm Prestige Global Designs sets a new bar on contemporary classical style in this stately home in one of Jakarta’s most premium locations.
A blend of detailed customisation, vast visual vocabulary and ingenious planning for maximum spatial functionality has proven a winning formula for luxury interior firm Prestige Global Designs. The year 2015 marks the second consecutive year that the firm is honoured with awards at the International Property Awards. The firm’s show suite at The Orchard Residences took home four awards in 2014: Asia Pacific Best Interior Design Apartment; Five-star Best Interior Design Apartment (Singapore); Highly Commended Interior Design Show Home (Singapore) and Highly Commended Interior Design Private Residence (Singapore). Earlier this year the firm’s gorgeous residential project in Marina Bay Residences was also honoured with the Highly Commended Interior Design Show Home (Singapore) award.
Never resting on its laurels, the firm unveiled its latest residential project in one of Jakarta’s most premium residential developments, the Dharmawangsa Residences II. Built in the heart of the city’s elite neighbourhood of Kebayoran Baru (the last residential area developed by the Dutch during the colonial era and one of Jakarta’s few remaining tranquil neighbourhoods), the Dharmawangsa Residences is located within the compound of the luxurious Dharmawangsa Hotel. Distinguished homeowners of the residence enjoy the privileges and access to the hotel’s facilities and restaurant.
Contemporary classical style that is, in the client’s words, “luxurious and prestigious but liveable and functional” had been the general brief for the 3,600 sq ft home, with a specific request of refraining from using too many shiny surfaces and mirrored panels. In less capable hands, such premium space and client brief would have been the perfect recipe for extravagance and garish overindulgence but designers Michael Ong and Jeremy Tay exercised the right amount of discipline and restraint in approaching the design.
Created to house the client’s collection of antiques, the lift lobby strategically segregates the main living areas with the bedroom areas, giving respective areas their own convenient entrances. An exquisite Saint Louis chandelier paired with an antique oriental table preside over the space, evoking a sense of grandeur while leaving sufficient room to move around.
Partitioned Living Area
Originally one large open space, the living area is now elegantly divided with a wall panelling that frames the living and dining areas, marking a proper transition in the functions without compromising the sense of space. The design of this wall panelling is replicated throughout the living room, visually connecting the living area with the dining room and sliding doors to the balcony. The space is furnished with selected pieces from Thomas Pheasant and paired with carefully considered fabrics.
Designed to match the wall panelling in the living and dining areas, the kitchen cabinet neatly houses built-in appliances and conceal a Miele fridge. A generously-sized island with premium Caesarstone counter top provides the client with ample space for entertaining and food preparation while the right kitchen cabinet discreetly hides the access door to the wet kitchen.
A Royal Bath
Designed to be the client’s private sanctuary, the master bathroom is an elegant spa which features a separate, glass-encased toilet and shower, a daybed-cum-massage bed with waterproof fabric, a bath, and two vanity counters with concealed LED lights around the mirrors where the owner can wash and groom the fatigue of the city lives off in maximum comfort. Where the brief is concerned, Prestige Global Designs has excelled with flying colours. Luxurious and prestigious? Definitely. Liveable and functional? Absolutely.
