6 Artists From Myanmar You Should Know

Kyi Hlaing Aung
Born to a family of artists, Kyi Hlaing Aung began his career in 1990. In 1996, he opened an art gallery with his brother, Artist Kaung Paing. Specialising in portraits, he has exhibited extensively in Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Ngwe Aung
Ngwe Aung has exhibited in more than 23 art shows internationally. His current work focuses on the uplands of Shan state, which borders China and Laos.
Lapyae
The younger son of Ngwe Aung, Lapyae paints Myanmar’s landmarks. He became a full-time artist after graduating at The State School of Fine Arts in Yangon, and his style is heavily influenced by his father.
Ngwe Phyoe
Ngwe Phyoe has held 10 solo exhibitions, including two art shows in Singapore. His signature method is to use a drip paint technique.
Moe Myint Zaw
Moe Myint Zaw is known for his colourful depictions of traditional headpieces worn by the Pa-Oh tribe, who hail from the Shan state in Myanmar.
