With their unique light and dark colour palettes, the Day and Night show units designed by 2nd Edition for South Beach Residences radiate distinct atmospheres

With a prime location, panoramic views of the city and a plethora of amenities, South Beach Residences is an urban sanctuary designed to meet the needs of busy city dwellers. The developer, South Beach Consortium, tasked 2nd Edition to craft inspiring spaces for future owners to visualise the potential of the condominium complex.

The design firm, renowned for creating elegant and sophisticated spaces, was commissioned to do up two show units that each exude a different atmosphere. The transformation was led by design director Hilary Loh, who worked alongside designer Eunice Chung to produce stunning units that represented the remarkable qualities of the property. “The goal was to present aspirational spaces that reflect the exclusivity and luxuriousness of the development,” says Loh.

To distinguish each unit, the firm conceptualised a dual-theme approach. “The theme for South Beach Residences is ‘city living from day to night’. To differentiate the two units, we adopted this concept to showcase how there can be two sides of the same coin,” Loh explains. “The ‘Day’ concept utilises a soft palette of colours, paired with elegant curves. The ‘Night’ concept highlights darker, bolder tones and plush materials.”

The first apartment, dubbed the Day unit, emanates a bright and cosy atmosphere. The 1,292sqft space makes use of predominantly creamy shades and light wood to create a stylish yet peaceful environment. Metallic details in a champagne gold finish add a luxurious touch.

To soften the look of the space, the team included plenty of curved elements. The master bedroom features a hand-carved wave design on the headboard, while the guest bedroom sports a unique rounded headboard with curved strips.

The rugs in both the master bedroom and living room were also customised to simulate the undulating pattern of ocean waves. The bookmatched onyx feature wall in the living room with its wavy decorative design, adds a graceful touch. “The marble finishes in the living and dining areas serve as a focal point as well as a visual link connecting these two areas,” says Loh.

In a continuation of the firm’s concept of duality, the Night unit comprises dark-stained wood and handsome furnishings to create a deliberate contrast from the Day unit. It evokes a dramatic, moody ambience elevated by brass accents.

Texture plays an important role in the elegant design narrative. The 1,798sqft space has glamorous chandeliers, mirrored panels and a tactile mix of materials that include wood panels with a piano-gloss ebony finish and dining chairs with quilted backrests.

In the master bedroom, a headboard in a two-tone fabric adds visual interest. The second bedroom boasts a headboard in a smoky-grey velvet and a brown faux leather in a metallic sheen. The addition of a multipurpose table furnishes the space with a stylish yet practical attribute. Sophisticated and refined in ambience, both units make a grand case for contemporary city living.
