Inspired to refresh a 14-year-old penthouse unit for a family of four, Summerhaus D’zign was tapped on for the renovation project after the homeowners discovered the homegrown interior design studio’s work in an issue of Tatler Homes Singapore. Taking the clients’ desires and integrity of the three-story apartment into consideration, Summerhaus D’zign set out to highlight the family’s cherished artworks that offer pops of lively colour and loftiness of the abode with full-length windows and a clean-lined look. Taking the family’s needs into account, the open plan of the 4,500 sq ft apartment has a kitchen and service yard that aligns with their love for cooking, an ensuite bedroom for the visiting grandparents, a playroom for the two children, and a rooftop jacuzzi area.

2. Thexton Smith Interiors’ luxurious penthouse in Marina Bay

Pushing good design to the limits, Thexton Smith Interiors had the opportunity to reimagine the look and feel of a luxurious penthouse in Marina Bay. Rented out on a two-year lease for a couple and their teenage son, the 4,800 sq ft property includes four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a picturesque vantage point of the sea. 

Incorporating the bold and expressive style Thexton Smith Interiors is lauded for, a piece de resistance in the apartment is the sculptural light installation that breaks the monotony of the original interior’s predominantly white shell while showcasing the impressiveness of the high ceiling and space of the living room with its composition of glass rods that mimics the impression of waves. Taking a week to complete, it took eight people to assemble the glass rods to create the nature-inspired installation. As this installation is for temporary use, the glass rods are made from 97 percent sustainable materials so that the fixture can be recycled or reused.

Embodying the homeowners’ lavish and go-getting lifestyles, the abode encompasses their spirit with finishes that have a timeless style and are equally durable. This includes the living room’s water-repellent sofas and armchairs from Castlery, Hermès pillows for a pop of color, and the Gucci Decor heron print wallpaper that elegantly complements the daffodil-yellow walls by the stairwell corridor.

3. Edmund Ng Architects’ minimalist penthouse in Keppel Bay

Dreaming up a penthouse inspired by fine art and sleek textures, Edmund Ng Architects is the brainchild behind the design of the gallery-inspired penthouse at Corals at Keppel Bay. Tapped upon by developer Keppel Land, the architecture studio elevated the 4,725 sq ft unit’s look with contemporary details which celebrate the potential of the high ceilings, double volume space, and waterfront views.

Spearheaded by Edmund Ng, familiar touches of his impactful and artistic sensibilities go noticed in spaces throughout the abode—from the bedrooms and study to the open-plan living room, which he cites as his favourite space to design. Greeting visitors as they first enter the foyer, the interiors are tasteful with an elaborate bookshelf-inspired feature wall and light installation that creates a grand first impression while showcasing the loftiness of the space that flows into the multi-purpose living and dining area.

4. SuMisura’s glamorous art-deco-inspired penthouse in V on Shenton

Known for their elegant couture-like interiors, Singapore design firm SuMisura got the chance to create a bespoke transformation at a penthouse show unit in V on Shenton. Inspired by the surrounding cosmopolitan environment, Angela Lim, the founder and principal designer of the firm, decided to elevate the apartment with details that evoke the innate glamour of living in the city while remaining cosy.

Maximising the 6,200 sq ft space of the apartment, Lim first gave the open-plan living room a stylish Art-Deco-inspired makeover with a spate of materials, including lush timber cladding, white marble wall finishes as well as furnishings that include bespoke copper wall sconces, embellished chandeliers and a custom L-shaped sofa in a rich royal blue. Similarly, opulent design accents and furnishings in darker hues were adapted to create visual continuity for the interiors of the four bedrooms, lounge, and study. Additionally, the penthouse offers an outdoor rooftop terrace that is spacious enough to place a seating area, billiards table, and other amenities for entertaining guests.

5. Antone by D’s elegant penthouse near Orchard

A stunning blend of modern design with glamourous touches, Antone by D founder and interior designer Divya Anthony had a crucial role to play when realising the look of this 5,800 sq ft penthouse near Orchard that serves as a retirement home for a couple. After coming across Anthony’s portfolio, the homeowners got inspired by the results of luxury apartments she designed and wanted her to give their abode a charming transformation.

Refreshing the penthouse with an elegant ambiance, a material palette of marble, wood, and metal accents is used to sculpt the interiors. Rich textures, patterns, and plush fabrics like velvet is also incorporated to enhance the luxurious and bespoke feel inside the apartment.

In line with the homeowners’ desires, the penthouse features personalised spaces that include the cosy open-plan living and dining room for intimate family gatherings, an oriental-inspired powder room, and a warmly-lit spiral staircase that doubles up as a tropical hanging garden.

6. By Invite Only founder Trixie Khong's modern-style penthouse with pet-friendly features

Taking cues from minimalist and modern styles, Trixie Khong and Steve Shaw tapped on homegrown interior design practice SYRB to create the home of their dreams for the pair and their beloved pets. Befitting the easygoing lifestyle of the couple, interiors of the home are made timeless with a predominantly black and white aesthetic that synergise with the warm natural furnishings and their cherished objects.

Dedicated spaces were also designed for the fashion-loving and entrepreneurial couple. For her, the By Invite Only founder’s favourite undoubtedly space is the walk-in wardrobe fitted with a glass cabinet that showcases her treasured designer bags on display. While her husband, who manages the finances of the Singapore jewelry label, appreciates his home office as it proves to be a tranquil space for work and has a stunning one-of-a-kind cityscape view.

Not forgetting their two border collies and cat, the home is made with pet-friendly spaces to accommodate their way of life. Designed for the pets to roam freely about, the open-plan living room and kitchen are vast enough for their daily movement as well as its accompanying outdoor balcony and the converted bedroom that has become an open space inside the penthouse. A glass gate is also built at a corner of the home for the cat to have a safe place during mealtimes.
