Pauline Ng was helping her mother Jenny Teng restart her now-defunct facial salon, J Phline, when they founded boutique spa chain Porcelain, The Face Spa in 2009. And they have reaped acclaim since then, having won Best Luxury Beauty Spa at the World Luxury Spa Awards for the past four years as well as being featured in the Louis Vuitton City Guide. The 30-year-old’s business may be growing rapidly—expanding her team of two to 45-strong, to the recent opening of a new flagship, Porcelain Signatures, at Tanjong Pagar Centre—but Pauline, who was featured in BBC’s special report on 30 Under 30 women entrepreneurs in 2015, believes in slowing down sometimes. “There was a time when we needed to be more efficient, but I think it’s time to be more human.” When Pauline needs to take her mind off work, she skis, dives and plays the piano.
