Coming from an 80-year-old family business in food distribution, it only made sense for siblings Nichol and Nicholas Ng to set up a non-profit organisation dedicated to eradicating hunger among the underprivileged in Singapore. The Food Bank Singapore was set up in 2012 to raise awareness about hunger issues and champion initiatives to reduce food wastage. While some may consider poverty a taboo topic, Nichol firmly believes a leader is someone who “dares to speak up on sensitive topics and motivates a generation to take action before it’s too late”. In the last three years, The Food Bank has grown enormously—it receives an average of 60 tonnes of food donations every month, which is then distributed to 168 charity organisations.
