In 2015, a seller on Carousell was trying to sell an e-bike but ended up giving it away to an old postman who needed help getting through his delivery route. To founders Quek Siu Rui, Lucas Ngoo and Marcus Tan, this was yet another reminder that Carousell is not just about transactions. “We like to think we’re helping people fill their lives with more meaningful things, instead of just more stuff,” says Siu Rui. Although Carousell is currently one of the largest mobile marketplace apps in Asia, the founders still operate on the belief they are less than one per cent done. “There are always more meaningful problems to solve, and new ways for us to make Carousell a safe and enjoyable community marketplace,” says Lucas.
