Founded by Sinan Ismail, Durioo+ produces Muslim content for children

Durioo+, a Malaysian animation studio founded by Sinan Ismail, has secured US$ 2.85 million in a seed round led by Y Combinator and Gobi Partners.

Sinan, who previously founded Digital Durian, the animation house behind the highly successful show Didi and Friends, started Durioo+ to provide a safe streaming platform for children to watch Muslim content. The works that it showcases focus on promoting the good values, virtues, and/or Islamic teachings through entertaining and fun storylines.

“We want our content to have a positive impact on children around the world,” says Sinan.

Since its establishment in February 2022, Durioo+ has produced 20 original programmes so far, ranging from animated cartoons to edutainment live-action shows. It has also licensed more than 1,500 episodes from shows such as Baby Shark and Upin and Ipin.

The platform has also signed 27 partnerships with government agencies, non-governmental organisations and SMEs, and gained over 22,000 paid subscribers. In the next few years, it aims to broaden its viewership base globally.
