Meet five entrepreneurs from Singapore on our list of 400 Leaders of Tomorrow

We just finished revealing the 400 honourees on the Gen.T List 2020 at unveiling events across the region.

To give you a taste of what to expect from the 55 young leaders on the list from Singapore, here are five entrepreneurs that represent the tenacity and talent of all the honourees from the country this year.

For helping North Koreans to reform their country’s economy

Founder, Choson Exchange

Geoffrey See has set himself the tough challenge of teaching people in North Korea how the rest of the world works. His organisation Choson Exchange has provided business education to 3,000 first-generation entrepreneurs in the country, contributing to the establishment of Special Economic Zones and legal reforms that strengthen property rights. He also educates policymakers internationally on the changing economic and social landscape in the country, with the hope of fostering international co-operation.

For hitting the big time in the jewellery world

Co-founder and principal designer, State Property 

Lin Ruiyin has made quite an international splash with her award-winning jewellery brand State Property, which she runs with her husband Afzal Imram. State Property’s aesthetic is a marriage between jewellery design and industrial design, which results in fine jewellery pieces that have been part of gallery collections in London and worn by the likes of Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga.

For improving the lives of Singapore's sex workers

Executive director, Project X

Through non-profit organisation Project X, Vanessa Ho is trying to end the stigma, discrimination and violence that affect sex workers in Singapore. She does this through outreach, building and empowering communities, documenting human rights violations and dispelling myths about sex work. She helped to establish the Human Rights Defenders Program, which trains current and former sex workers in skills such as digital storytelling, counselling, suicide intervention, project management and financial literacy.

For streamlining and simplifying healthcare

Founder, chairman and CEO, Doctor Anywhere

Boasting about US$40 million in funding, Doctor Anywhere has its million-plus clients waiting five minutes for US$14 video conferences with registered doctors, then getting medication delivered within hours. Started in 2015 in Singapore, Lim Wai Mun’s brainchild also has operations in Vietnam and Thailand and is expanding to Malaysia and the Philippines. Fast, cost-effective and socially distant, Doctor Anywhere is the future of medicine.

For leading the charge towards sustainable lab-grown seafood

Co-founder and chief scientific officer, Shiok Meats

Driven by a desire to circumvent the unsustainable shrimp industry, Ling Ka Yi and her business partner Sandhya Sriram founded Shiok Meats to create a lab-grown alternative. The Singapore-based company aims to disrupt the billion-dollar crustacean market with the world’s first clean shrimp, produced without cruelty. It recently completed a US$4.6 million seed funding round, and will commercially launch its first product, Shiok Shrimp, in 2022.
