Organised annually by Singapore interior design practice Design Intervention, the Young Designer Award (YDA) returned for another year, featuring myriad entries by aspiring young designers from schools across Singapore. First launched in 2015, the competition aims to celebrate the work of young talents, with industry veterans and design lovers alike gathering to await the awarding. Nikki Hunt and Andrea Savage of Design Intervention led the five-member judging panel, together with Singapore Tatler group editor Kissa Castañeda. The titular prize was eventually awarded to Ngee Ann Polytechnic student Simon Tan, who impressed judges with his take on “Zen Modernism”—his interior scheme features wooden furnishings, customised latticework, and other well-curated details that add up to create a calming family abode.
