Since 2016, the Singapore National Eye Centre and Singapore Eye Research Institute have banded together to raise awareness about eye health as well as advance eye care research, treatment and delivery in Singapore and the region through the VisionSave initiative. One of the major annual events that help to propel the initiative's efforts further is the Eye Ball fundraiser, which took place in September this year at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. Explaining the theme, The Golden Eye Ball, chairperson Ho Ching Lin said: "It signifies the golden era of ophthalmology and how we are keeping an eye on a good cause."

As with past editions of the charity event, a silent auction and live auction were part of the programme, contributing to the cool $1.39 million raised that evening. Besides these fundraising efforts, prominent philanthropist Chua Thian Poh was also honoured that evening with the Visionary Award. The chairman and CEO of property investment and development company Ho Bee Land is known for his generous contributions towards the areas of business, education, public service, culture and community. Closer to the end of the evening, two guests—namely, Singapore Tatler friend Nancy Ong and PropertyGuru co-founder Steve Melhuish—were celebrated for their stylish ensembles with a Best Dressed prize each.
