Retro influences reigned at the Tatler Design Awards 2020, which was all decked out to celebrate the resurgence of styles of the past in the world of interior design. Held at Spanish restaurant Una at The Alkaff Mansion, the event gathered industry insiders and homeowners to fete the winners of the night.
A cosy alcove furnished by French design brand Roche Bobois provided a stunning prelude to the evening’s nostalgic theme. Upholstered in an array of vibrant textiles from Missoni Home, the Roche Bobois Mah Jong sofa set embraced the seventies’ flower child spirit. At the bar area upstairs, a selection of paintings from Gallery 1819 added an artistic flourish to the historic venue, which was renovated by the 1-Group last year to enhance its remarkable setting. During the event, guests enjoyed a four-course dinner by Una, which presented an exquisite medley of flavours inspired by dishes from the Basque region in Spain while being accompanied by floral arrangements by Fiore Dorato.
Among the notable attendees was Ed Ng, co-founder of AB Concept and a member of the Tatler Design Awards jury, who shared insights into the selection of winners and the significance of that “Instagram moment”—how social media influences the way we experience spaces. To commemorate the occasion, the winners received trophies custom-made by stone specialist MM Galleri and designed by Celine Ng of local studio Fraction. Designed as a table lamp, the trophy’s silhouette harked to the triumphant form of an Olympic swimmer while illuminating the beautiful grains of the onyx veneer that it was crafted with.
