The Singapore Dance Theatre’s (SDT) annual fundraiser, The Moon and the Stars Gala, was aptly themed “Pride and Passion” this year, in conjunction with the Singapore Bicentennial. In her welcome speech at the Capitol Theatre in March, SDT chairperson Laura Hwang enthused that this demonstrates the company’s “pride in the past and passion for the future”.
She also paid tribute to the evening’s guests of honour—former Singapore president Tony Tan Keng Yam, who is a SDT patron, as well as three former ministers in charge of arts and culture, S Dhanabalan, Lee Yock Suan and Lee Boon Yang, along with former National Arts Council chairman Liu Thai Ker—for their unwavering support to see the company through what it is today. One of SDT’s latest initiatives is its alliance with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, which will provide the live music to some of its future productions.
