What is one of the most important elements in the fight against drug abuse? Support for the at-risk youth and recovering persons—from both the family and the community.

Earlier this month, Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) president Dr Jade Kua addressed guests at the association’s Charity Golf and Dinner, held at the Sembawang Country Club: “The fight against drug abuse cannot be a stand-alone effort. We value the support of the community, so we can build a safer society and protect our families and children from harm.”

Every year, SANA’s signature event raises about $200,000 from corporate organisations and charitable guests, which helps to fund the association’s programmes for recovering individuals—including counselling, tattoo removal, legal aid, skill upgrading, and job training. The guest of honour for this edition was Mr Patrick Tay, Member of Parliament for West Coast GRC and member of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs & Law.

After a game of golf, two of SANA’s clients—out of over 6,000 individuals that the charity benefits each year—Jasmine and Stephen took to the stage during dinner to share their personal stories of drug abuse and recovery. The dinner came to an end with a prize presentation to the golf champion and lucky draw winners.
