.Musical Theatre Limited's annual gala dinner held at the Resorts World Convention Centre

Its mission is clear: to create original Singapore musicals and empower the disadvantaged through them. Arts charity Musical Theatre Limited (MTL) showed its mettle at its annual gala dinner on March at the Resorts World Convention Centre. The MINDS Taiko Drum Troupe opened the evening with a bang, before Robert Tan and Wan Wai Yee, the visually handicapped leads from My Love is Blind, sang a medley of songs from the 2016 MTL musical.

Guests also witnessed an installation ceremony of the organisation’s new chairman and president, Sean Wong. The singer-songwriter takes over from MTL co-founder and renowned playwright Stella Kon, who is stepping down to concentrate on writing its next production, Lim Boon Keng, The Musical, which honours the legacy of her social reformer great-grandfather. The over $350,000 raised that evening will go towards funding the musical as well as MTL’s creative arts programmes.
