Heroes, both those on the nation’s frontline and unsung within the community, were saluted at this year’s Kidz Horizon Appeal Ball. Held at the Grand Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, the event drew guests who came suitably dressed to the evening’s theme, An Officer & A Gentleman. Ladies were togged out in stunning interpretations of military chic, from Chanel jackets adorned with medals to pantsuits with broad shouldered jackets and mini peak caps and flight attendant uniforms.
Preprandial drinks flowed into a vibrant evening of wining and dining punctuated by speeches and performances. In her welcome address, Caroline Low-Heah, chairperson of Kidz Horizon Appeal, said, “To date, we have helped over 1,000 children. The children and committee can never thank you enough for your support. Tonight, we also thank the men and women who have served in our country’s military since the country’s independence.”
Witty commentary by host Steven Chia and music from a live band kept the tempo up throughout the evening. The auction segment, which began as guests tucked into their main course, took things to fever pitch. With luxurious items including a sunset cruise, a Merlion diamond pendant from Flower Diamond Boutique and a private Louis XIII wine and dinner experience going under the hammer, guests put forth their most generous bids for charity. A Besta Bestrizal painting titled I Am What I Am opened at a starting bid of $6,800 and closed at $27,000 after animated bidding.
A cheque presentation, performances by Aussie band 100% Kylie and local band Acoustic Trip, a Teochew porridge supper and dancing till late brought the event to a close.
