Halogen Foundation Singapore Raises Over $280,000 For Disadvantaged Students at Charity Golf Event
A total of 124 golfers came together and took part in Halogen Foundation Singapore's Charity Golf Challenge in October last year and raised $283,503 together with matching support from Tote board. Potentially, this will reach an estimated $566,000 as Halogen will also receive a dollar-for-dollar matching for all its donations from the Bicentennial Community Fund. Singapore Tatler was the official media partner for the charity event, which included lunch, a golf game and a dinner programme attended by society friends such as Alfred Chua, Clinton Ang and Phillip Heng.
The funds raised will go towards making quality leadership and entrepreneurship education available to all young people in Singapore, particularly those who come from challenging family backgrounds or rely on financial assistance schemes. One of Halogen's featured programmes that will be supported through the raised funds is the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) programme which specifically caters to the financially disadvantaged students.
Jessie Ho-Thong, the co-chairperson and chairperson of Halogen's fundraising committee and golf committee respectively, may not be a golfer herself but she continuously sets high targets for each fundraiser that she organises.
“As a parent myself, I see the importance of being able to give the young people in these families the support with access to networks and opportunities, so that they can help themselves and others well. Having attended the NFTE training programme myself, I find that it is useful in building an entrepreneurial mindset in young people," said Jessie.
Other than the fact that it was held at the Sentosa Golf Club, last year’s event was exceptional as the trophies were sponsored by Tiffany & Co. and guests also walked away with prizes sponsored by Frasers Hospitality, Fairmont Hotel, La Source Spa, Singapore Pools and Skin Inc. As a local charity, Halogen engages in annual fundraising initiatives to reach out to donors and sponsors to support their cause and will continue working towards their goal of building young leaders and entrepreneurs in Singapore.
