With a storied brand like Breguet, and especially one that is named after Abraham-Louis Breguet, the grandmaster of watchmaking, one would have thought it would be a predominantly masculine brand. But the mother-and-daughter and best-friend pairs, who turned up at the Breguet boutique at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, were pleasantly surprised with the breadth of feminine timepieces the brand boasted.
That evening, Breguet showed its iconic Reine de Naples 8918, a 2019 novelty that featured elements in bright burgundy red. While many in the crowd are aware of the watch more commonly known as the Queen of Naples, most admitted that they did not know that it was named after Caroline Murat, the Queen of Naples and sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. She had placed an order for a wristwatch from Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1810 and its case was already designed in the now famous egg shape. The ladies also had the chance to view the new Classique Dame 9068 introduced with a classy mother-of-pearl dial and the Breguet Marine 9017, a female version of the highly popular Marine for men. Nancy Ong, Chermaine Pang and Emily Piak sportingly wore the three novelties and showcased the beautiful watches to the audience, who gave their full support by snapping photos of them non-stop and cheering them on. Besides learning more about Breguet, guests also sampled new wines and had their portraits painted by local watercolour artist Grace Ciao.
