1. Anti:dote

One of our top picks for an after-work venue for tipples and nibbles is Anti:dote, conveniently located at Fairmont Hotel. Head craftsman Bannie Kang and head chef Tryson Quek give us something to look forward to with their updated cocktail and Asian-inspired tapas menus.

Choose from three signature cocktails: Taproot Sangaree, inspired by the festive mulled wine; Lord Kane, a fruity mix of white rum, salted pineapple and coconut syrup; and Stay Humble, a refreshing drink influenced by pisco.

There are also scrumptious bar bites to share. Highlights include a platter of oysters served with pickled seaweed and burnt butter caviar; Hokkaido scallop tartare with whiskey-smoked lime ponzu; and a vegetarian option of beetroot and edamame atop a crisp tartlet, mixed with Manuka honey and burrata cheese.

2. Dolce Vita

Every day is pasta day here, especially with chef de cuisine Marco Manocchio at the helm. And he makes it from scratch daily using his nonna’s (grandma) recipes.

You’ll find his labour of love in the pasta section, featured in a myriad creations for lunch and dinner. Want something earthy? Choose the tortelli, which is shaped like a hat,  in rich  tomato sauce and served with wholesome mushroom consommé with pureed and diced chestnut. For all-time favourites, opt for the norcina, chef’s signature dish made with hand-cut tagliolini and Umbria sausage, as well as the classic carbonara, prepared with a generous serving of pecorino sabayon and pancetta.

3. Firebake

Nothing puts you in a good mood like the smell of freshly-baked bread, which makes the drive to Firebake in the east worth it. And it has extended its opening hours from 8.30am to 10pm (Tuesday to Sunday), so you can drop by any time for its famous artisanal sourdough breads and more.

Start your day here with a locally-inspired morning set, which gives you charcoal-grilled wood-fired sourdough milk bun with butter, half-boiled eggs and kopi or tea. Or have the daily bakes, which include the appetising Cheesymites, made with cheese and vegemite, and the Morning Buns, with flavours like cinnamon and lime.

For lunch and dinner, enjoy all-day options such as the popular baked eggs with mushroom and grilled steak sandwich.

4. Fat Cow

If you're thinking Fat Cow’s 16-course lunch (Sumire) and 20-course dinner (Nagoyaka) menus might be too much to handle, you’ll be glad to know that head chef Shigeru Kasajima has added two omakase menus with lesser items—the Akatsuki, which is available for lunch, and Omomuki for dinner.

These offer 12- and 16-courses, respectively, which start with an amuse bouche, in this case, a marinated egg yolk with wagyu tataki and shiitake mushrooms, followed by sea bream soup with a dash of lime sudachi, seasonal appetisers and nigiri sushi accompanied by pickled chrysanthemum.

5. Nouri

Before you make any dinner plans on March 1 or 2, take note: Chef Ivan Brehm is collaborating with chefs Adam Dahlberg and Albin Wessman from renowned Swedish restaurant Adam/Albin for a two-night six-hands dinner that pairs Brehm's crossroads cooking with the duo’s contemporary Swedish culinary style.

They’re preparing an exciting eight-course meal at Nouri comprising collaborative and signature dishes. Highlights include the seared pigeon with poblano chili, pistachios and pigeon jus; king crab with zucchini, broad beans and horseradish cilantro; and cod cooked in charcoaled cream and served with avocado and sesame seeds. Top up if you'd like the sommelier to pair these delicious treats with winning natural wines.

6. Book Ahead: L’Espresso

L’Espresso’s spread for its Chocolate Divine English Afternoon Tea experience, available from March 9 to April 8, is aptly indulgent. Here you’ll find creations any chocolate lover would go gaga for, as well as inspired additions such as chocolate and sea salt grissini; there's even one with a mix of chocolate and shichimi (Japanese spice blend). These are served alongside sandwiches with various chocolate spreads, such as the hazelnut and orange ciabatta, and another with chocolate and pecan nut.

To boot, featured pastries—from chocolate profiteroles with pastry cream to ivory chocolate brownies and white chocolate green tea cake—are also made with milk and dark chocolate.
