Make the most out of your mealtime with our roundup of timely treats

It's mealtime and the stomach is rumbling incessantly. The only thoughts circulating through the mind are the dining options. Sure, one could possibly make a meal out of the previous day’s leftovers or grab a quick microwavable meal from the nearest convenience store, but why settle for less? The following picks present restaurant obsessives with a (more than) decent meal, offering everything from traditional Indonesian cuisine to Japanese yakiniku.

1. Yen Social

Turning out great yakiniku is by no means a simple feat. Yen Social’s dedication to the craft produces impressive results: expect wallet-friendly premium cuts that are rich, juicy and flavourful. The focus is on their butcher platter, which features a progression of meats from thick-cut karubi to Australian Wagyu ribeye. To add, the 21-day dry-aged Wagyu ox tongue is impressive, but it’s the Taiwanese-style Wagyu beef noodle that steals the show. Taiwanese-born Chef Chen’s special recipe features Japanese Wagyu beef chunks and beef tendon, slow-stewed for 48 hours and served with a tangle of firm, chewy noodles. The meat is so tender, it pulls apart at the touch of a fork. Book here.

2. Tok Tok Indonesian Restaurant

Tok Tok Indonesian Restaurant has recently started a new family dining concept that features perennial Indonesian favourites inspired by heritage recipes. Classics like the Gulai Kambing, a curry mutton soup dish and Balinese Ayam Bakar Betutu rubbed with a traditional genap paste are the go-to choices, but there are options worth a try like the Buntut Goreng Sambal Matah, another original creation served with homemade Balinese lemongrass chilli salsa and Udang Sambal Pete, a spicy dish of prawns tossed with fragrant sambal and crunchy petai beans. For the adventurous, the Buntut Bakar Saus Kacang is a deeply satisfying rendition of the traditional Sup Buntat, where the buntut is grilled to sweet, caramelised perfection. Book here.

3. Lady M Champagne Bar

Lady M is essentially a treasure trove of desserts, with a tantalising selection of cakes and confections to satiate those sweet cravings. Their new Champagne bar at Ion Orchard features top hits like their signature mille crêpes in flavoured variants and fresh additions like the champagne mille crepes with glittering rose champagne gelee. The combination is light, nectarous and satisfying. While the desserts are stellar, the other new savoury items—like the chilled caviar angel hair and creamy lobster fettuccine—are flavourful and thoughtfully prepared. The fettuccine comes dressed with huge chunks of lobster, fresh chives and a thick, velvety sauce. It is delicious without being excessively cloying. Book here.

4. Cure

Cure has long been a coveted reservation; the attention to small details in the food and presentation has undoubtedly gained chef Andrew Walsh the approbation of food connoisseurs across the island. Its latest seasonal menu, which draws from a wide net of Irish influences is a testament to his culinary genius. Menu standouts include the aged duck ham, redolent with the woody and spicy scent of juniper berries and their succulent Sanchoku A5 beef striploin served with boxty potato and truffle. The X factor is the Irish whiskey pepper sauce, which takes the beef to another level. Also, it is easy to appreciate the boxty potato, a comforting appetiser made with a delicious combination of mashed potato, egg yolk, braised oxtail and spicy horseradish. Be sure not to overlook the queen scallop either, which is perfectly seasoned with hints of lemon juice and sea salt. Book here.
