When you dine here from December 2 to January 1, you’ll get a complimentary bottle of wine with every two live lobsters ordered. It’s never too early to celebrate Christmas, and that’s what you can do at this restaurant now that its Christmas menus are available throughout the month. Choose the three- or four-course option, or, if you’re feeling hungry, the a la carte items.

Choose from a bevvy of enticing starters such as chicken liver pate with a side of pickled radish and toasted baguette; butternut squash, parsnip and apple soup, piqued with a dollop of horseradish cream.

Traditional festive classics dominate the main courses, so you can either have the roasted beef sirloin with a side of mushroom pate, English mustard and bone marrow jus, or turkey roulade stuffed with celery, chestnuts, sage and mushrooms.

Chef Kirk Westaway’s Reinventing British menu is inspired by the seasons. Now that it’s winter in his hometown, he has changed up his offerings to reflect the beautiful produce during this time of the year.

He commences the winter menu with a parade of snacks—the classic fish and chips but elevated in terms of taste and presentation, as well as the duck sausage roll, a humble pastry snack of organic duck ground with English pork belly that’s home-cured for six weeks.

His winter plates are all about comfort food. British Roots, an ode to his heritage, is an assemblage of chervil and parsley root; marinated celeriac that’s also been baked with salt, rye and barley; roasted artichoke and Joselito ham aged for five years.

Next time you find yourself in the east, check out this popular café’s new home at East Coast Park. Its seaside location has inspired its chill and breezy interiors as well as its extensive menu, boasting classics and new creations.

For the latter, you have chargrilled octopus, a unique take on ‘char siew’ featuring octopus work-fried in a homemade sauce. Inspired by Thai flavours, the lemongrass mussel & clam spaghettini is tossed with portobello mushrooms, black mussels, fresh Venus clams and a sweet and sour sauce.

5. Caffe Cicheti

Popular brunch spot Fynn’s has shuttered its doors for good, but the space has been given a new lease on life with the opening of Caffe Cicheti, from the same folks that brought us Cicheti (2013) and Bar Cicheti (2018).

The 1,500 sqft space feels like an urban oasis, swathed in warm tones of brown and emerald green and outfitted with bistro-style patio seating. Dig into hearty favourites which include Panzanella, Tuscan bread and heirloom tomato salad with a generous dousing of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette; and Iberico pork rack roast, flavoured with fermented garlic and a five-spice mix.

Desserts like gianduja semifreddo, a Piedmont speciality of amaretti biscuits, dark chocolate and chopped hazelnuts, will have you wishing that you really had an extra stomach for desserts.
