Quench your thirst with our bi-weekly recommendations of alcoholic tipples that please

It's only Wednesday but for many, it seems like it's been a long and hard week. Why not take a break from work and invite a few of your drinks to have a drink or two at some of the island's best bars? If you want to check out a new place, consider Atico Lounge which completes 1-Atico's multi-concept destination, or Anouska's bar at Duxton Reserve that serves former actress Anouska Hempel's favourite tipples. The latter is close to the CBD too, just like Don Ho with a recently-launched Tiny Bubbles Bar, and Jigger & Pony whose bar team collaborated with Smokey Monkey to create an adults-only camp experience. End the week with a trip to Origin Bar, where bar manager Adam Bursik and team have refreshed the menu to offer more inspired cocktails.

1. Atico Lounge

The multi-concept destination is now complete with the addition of Atico Lounge—home to a range of innovative cocktails made with artisanal spirits and house-made ingredients, and complemented by equally delectable bar bites.

The offerings take cues from different cities in the world. For example, Fantaji captures the essence of the Japanese spirit with its medley of shiso-infused gin, butterfly pea flower tea, yuzu sake and fresh citrus. Pirlo brings imbibers to Brescia, Lombardy, as it’s reminiscent of the local aperitivo made with Campari, house-made soda and sauvignon blanc. Book here.

2. Origin Bar

Bar Manager Adam Bursik and his team continue to tell the stories of Singapore’s neighbourhoods through its refreshed beverage menu, which has added the district of Balestier to its line-up of Orchard, Chinatown, Little India, Boat Quay and Marina Bay.

The wider theme has spawned 18 brand new cocktails, including Tropez (under Balestier) and Dirty Brew (under Little India). The former features aromatised Buddha’s hand with Chocolate Matusalem 7-year-old Rum, Mancino Rosso Amaranto and coconut maraschino, and the latter is a robust mix of spiced Mr. Black Amaro, The Lovers Rum, coffee and cardamom cream. 3. Anouska’s

Located in the heart of the business district is this modern and sleek bar within Duxton Reserve that’s an ode to Bond-Girl-turned-interior-designer Anouska Hempel. That said, the menu is a collection of her favourite drinks from around the world, most specifically from the disco era of the 70s and 80s.

Look forward to Escape to Kaifeing, the bar’s trademark cocktail that’s made with house-made chrysanthemum cordial and Tanqueray London dry gin, as well Chen Pi Collens, an east-meets-west creation of Mandarin-infused gin and citrus fizz. Book here.

4. Don Ho

Giving more reasons for diners to visit, the Don Ho team has launched its Tiny Bubbles Bar, a small but cosy watering hole beside the restaurant that offers a compact but good list of champagnes, sparkling wines and cocktails. To Bubble or Not to Bubble? That is the question—and the name of the cocktail menu that offers two versions (straight-up classic and fizzy) of the same tipple such as mojito and Aperol spritz. Drop by from Wednesday to Friday, 4pm to 7pm for the Don Ho Social Hour where drinks are available at Happy Hour prices.

5. Jigger & Pony

Smokey Monkey has finally arrived in Singapore, and to celebrate its launch, Monkey Shoulder has partnered with Asia’s Best Bar 2020 Jigger & Pony to bring you Camp Smokey. It’s an adults-only summer camp happening from April 20 to May 2, where Monkey Shoulder regional brand ambassador Samuel Ng and Jigger & Pony principal bartender Silvio Daniele have created exclusive cocktails that hark back to their summer camp days.

From Daniele comes Smoked Bananas, concocted with Smokey Monkey, banana puree, chocolate liqueur, fresh cream and marshmallow. Daniele and Ng have created two cocktails together, too. Wild Highball was inspired by the wild and foraging for ingredients, and is a mix of Monkey Shoulder and Smokey Monkey, coconut, bamboo leaves and soda water, while Campfire is a smoky concoction reminiscent of campfires. Book here.
