Why The Macallan Red Collection is Coveted By Whisky Collectors
Much to the excitement of whisky enthusiasts, renowned Scottish distillery The Macallan has unveiled its most prestigious range to date—The Red Collection, inspired by the heritage and legacy of the brand and comprising its finest and oldest ongoing expressions.
These offerings were distilled decades ago in the distillery’s unique small copper stills, and matured in exceptional oak casks under the guidance of several generations of whisky makers. With the passage of time, the taste of these single malts have been shaped and influenced by these carefully selected casks to produce sumptuously elegant and aged whiskies.
The collection is anchored by The Macallan 40 Years Old, The Macallan 50 Years Old and The Macallan 60 Years Old, the oldest expressions offered by the distillery which are available in limited quantities across the globe.
Occasionally, these prestigious bottles will be joined by other high-aged releases, starting with The Macallan 71 Years Old, The Macallan 74 Years Old and The Macallan 78 Years Old. In fact, these rare single malts are some of the world’s oldest Scotch whiskies, with the 74 Years Old and The 78 Years Old being the oldest bottlings the brand has ever released.
Each of these expressions are encased in a beautiful oak box, crafted from the sustainable European oak that was used to make The Macallan’s oak casks. These are also lined with sustainably sourced soft red leather by Scottish suppler Bridge of Weir Leather, which supplies upholstery for leading car brands in the world.
These releases were hand finished and signed by master whisky maker Kirsteen Campbell, making them all the more coveted by collectors. She stated: “Created from some of the world’s oldest and rarest casks it is an incredible privilege to have crafted The Red Collection, the pinnacle of The Macallan’s portfolio.”
