For the first time, the world's largest wine trade fair will be dedicating a space to organic and biodynamic wines.

At the 2017 edition of Vinexpo in Bordeaux next summer, visitors will be able to find sustainable wine options under the new 'World of Organic Wines' (WOW) banner, where they'll be able to meet with winemakers and producers and sample wines at tasting tables.

While organic winemakers have exhibited at previous Vinexpo events, the creation of a single dedicated space is in response to the rising social and environmental consciousness of oenophiles for wines produced in a sustainable manner.

Likewise, the fair will also host conferences and roundtable discussions on organic wines. Food offerings in the WOW area will feature organic fare.

The 19th annual edition of Vinexpo is slated to be a particularly noteworthy event by virtue of its host city, Bordeaux. Last week, Lonely Planet named Bordeaux the world's top city for 2017.

One of its top attractions for oenophiles? The Cité du Vin, described as a theme park for adult wine lovers which opened last summer.

The interactive wine museum spans 13,350 square meters over 10 levels and pays tribute to the region's rich and storied wine heritage with exhibits, tastings, art works, concerts, screening events and dining experiences.

From a distance, the museum's graceful curves are meant to evoke the shape of wine swirling in glass, the coiled movement of a grapevine, and the ebb and flow of the Garonne river, which snakes through Bordeaux.

A new LGV Sud-Ouest train line is also due for completion in mid-2017, which will cut travel time from Paris to two hours and connect the city with Europe's high-speed rail network.

Vinexpo 2017 runs 18 to 21 June 2017.
