Locally-made Tanglin Black Powder Gin took home the Best Navy Strength Gin award, as well as the Double Gold Medal for the second year running

There is a lot to be proud of about Tanglin Gin, Singapore’s first gin distillery. At the recent San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), its Black Powder Gin won the Best Navy Strength Gin award and took home the Double Gold Medal award for the second year in a row.

To be considered for the Best Navy Strength Gin award, the spirit should have an ABV of at least 57 per cent. Packing a punch at 58 per cent ABV, Tanglin Gin's entry is a blend of juniper, coriander, vanilla, amchoor (a fruity spice powder made from dried unripe green mango) and fresh lemons.

“To win best-in-class for Navy Strength after just two and a half years in the handcrafted spirits business is incredible,” enthuses Tim Whitefield, the head distiller and co-founder of Tanglin Gin.

Assistant distiller Elaine Lee, the newest member of the Tanglin family whose first assignment was the Black Powder Gin, adds: “It has been a thrill working for Singapore’s first distillery and garnering praise from international gin experts on behalf of a soulful and creative team. We hope to keep our winning streak.”

Tanglin Gin also took home other accolades for its two main expressions—its first Gold Medal for the Singapore Gin and Silver for the Orchid Gin.
