1. Ugly Food
Did you know that food waste is one of the biggest issues in Singapore and that the amount of food we are wasting has grown by about 20 per cent over the last 10 years, according to Towards Zero Waste?
To combat this problem, Uglyfood was founded in 2017 and its primary goal is to eliminate food waste so that it can revamp the food ecosystem. What Uglyfood does is that it collects blemished or excess food products and sells them back to customers at a significantly reduced price.
They sell everything from bread, fruits and vegetables and even ramen noodles.
Over the years, Uglyfood’s efforts have saved over 400 tonnes of perfectly edible food from being thrown away and filling our landfills.
