The global celebration of cocktails falls on May 13, but if you're on temporary sobriety, consider preparing these 11 non-alcoholic recipes

World Cocktail Day falls on May 13 this year. But if you’ve opted for a sober curious lifestyle—which means taking a break from alcohol or giving it up completely—try making yourself one of these recipes that use non-alcoholic spirits as your base. They are zero-proof yet perfectly capture the taste and aroma of the traditional spirit, ensuring you still enjoy the full flavours of your favourite tipple without getting a hangover. That said, here are recipes shared by Lyre's, Kin Euphorics, Seedlip and Melato to get you started.

1. No-Groni

INGREDIENTS

  • 60ml Melati Classic
  • 30ml orange juice
  • Splash of tonic water
  • Ice cubes

METHOD

  1. Build all ingredients into a rocks glass with ice.
  2. Garnish with a blood orange slice.

2. Minosa

  • 50ml Seedlip Grove 42
  • 35ml fresh chilled orange juice
  • 15ml  passionfruit pulp
  • Cold soda water

METHOD

  1. Add all ingredients to a flute, top with sparkling soda & stir gently.
  2. Garnish with an edible flower.

3. Negroni

INGREDIENTS

  • 30ml Lyre's Dry London Spirit
  • 30ml Lyre's Apéritif Rosso
  • 30ml Lyre's Italian Orange
  • Orange slice (for garnish)

METHOD

  1. Add all ingredients to an Old Fashioned glass and stir briefly over fresh, cubed ice.

4. Grove 42 Margarita

INGREDIENTS

  • 50ml Seedlip Grove 42
  • 1tbsp agave syrup
  • 20ml fresh lime juice
  • Ice
  • Lime and salt (for garnish) 

METHOD

  1. Run a lime wedge around the outside of the tumbler glass rim, then roll the rim in salt.
  2. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.
  3. Shake, then strain into the tumbler.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel.

5. Espresso Martini

INGREDIENTS

  • 45ml Lyre's Coffee Originale
  • 15ml Lyre's White Cane Spirit
  • 45ml premium cold drip or fresh espresso
  • 7.5ml premium vanilla syrup
  • Coffee bean float

METHOD

  1. Dry shake and half fill the shaker with ice. Shake hard briefly, then fine strain.    
  2. Pour the mixture into a coupette cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with coffee bean float.

6. Mojito

INGREDIENTS

  • 75ml Lyre's white cane spirit
  • 30ml lime juice
  • 15ml white sugar syrup (1:1)
  • 8 to10 mint leaves
  • 30ml soda water
  • Lime wheel and mint sprig (for garnish)

METHOD

  1. Add all ingredients into a Highball glass. Fill with fresh cubed ice, stir and add soda.
  2. Garnish with a lime wheel and plump mint sprig.

7. Melati Sour

  • 60ml Melati Classic
  • 20ml Lime Juice
  • 10ml agave syrup
  • Ice cubes

METHOD

  1. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake until chilled.
  2. Strain into a martini glass over ice and garnish with a lime wheel.

8. Garden Booch

  • 50ml Seedlip Garden 108
  • Passionfruit kombucha
  • Ice
  • A sprig of mint (for garnish)

METHOD

  1. Build over ice, stir and garnish.
  2. Pour the mixture into a tumbler or tall glass.

9. Kin Pomme

INGREDIENTS

  • 2oz Kin High Rhode
  • 1oz pomegranate soda
  • 1/2oz ginger syrup
  • 1/2oz lemon juice
  • 5 dashes of aromatic bitters
  • 1 spring of rosemary
  • Cubed ice

METHOD

  1. Add ice to a mixing glass. Pour in High Rhode, pomegranate soda, ginger syrup, lemon juice, and aromatic bitters. Stir for 30 seconds.
  2. Strain with a fine-mesh strainer straight up into a coupe.
  3. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.

10. Kincolada

INGREDIENTS

  • 2oz Kin High Rhode
  • 1oz coconut milk
  • 1oz pineapple juice
  • 1 pinch of spirulina
  • 1 bar spoon of ginger syrup
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • Cubed ice

METHOD

  1. Pour all ingredients into a shaker, add ice, and shake mindfully for 30 seconds.
  2. Strain into a wine glass or snifter over fresh ice. Top with a pinch of cinnamon and your choice of garnish.

11. Watermelon Daiquiri

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 parts Melati Classic
  • 1 part fresh watermelon juice
  • 1/2 part lime juice
  • Touch of brown sugar
  • Ice cubes

METHOD

  1. Dissolve sugar in the watermelon juice in a shaker.
  2. Add Melati Classic, lime juice and ice.
  3. Shake until chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass over ice.
  4. Garnish with a watermelon slice.
