The Year of the Ox is off to a good start with the addition of these family-friendly dining concepts

We’re all about multi-tasking in this day and age, so it doesn't come as a surprise that there's been an increase in gourmet stores in Singapore that offer deliciously cooked food within their premises. It's only the beginning of the Year of the Ox, and we already have two new names in the scene—European grocery and bistro Maison Marie which recently opened at The Rail Mall in Bukit Timah, as well as Green Common by sustainability champion Green Monday, which is your new one-stop-shop for all your healthy and meat-free necessities. It's a good year for established brands like Little Farms, too, which opened its biggest outlet to date in Joo Chiat.

1. Maison Marie

Consider this newly-opened European grocery and bistro if you’re looking for new reasons to visit The Rail Mall in upper Bukit Timah. Make a stop first at the market place that’s home to an array of premium produce—three varieties of oysters, fresh fish sourced from Rungis International Market in France, and pantry necessities such as cheeses from Greece.

Can’t wait to try these? Head down to the bistro for an enticing meal that showcases the season’s best. Dishes include an umami-packed onion soup topped with gratinated gruyere and crouton and a beautifully grilled Mediterranean sea bream with salad on the side.

2. Green Common

The rise in healthy eating in Singapore has inspired Green Monday Group to launch this 3,000 sqft eatery and grocery concept store at Vivocity. At the retail section, you can find all your plant-based necessities—Omnimeat, Beyond Meat, Daiya, Just Egg and Heura—to get you started in cooking healthy dishes at home.

But if you want to indulge in meatless fare right away, the café offers a curated menu of plant-based dishes and meat-free alternatives. Perfect for families are the Meat Lovers Pizza, which is topped with Beyond Meat sausage as well as Daiya cheese, and the Meatless Meatballs made with hand-rolled Omnimeat and Beyond Meat and bathed in a rich marinara sauce.

3. Little Farms

The multi-concept gourmet store has opened its biggest outlet on Joo Chiat Road. The space spans 6,000 sq ft and includes a grocer, butcher counter, coffee bar and full-service bistro.

After a day of shopping for healthy food and ingredients, customers can indulge at the café that offers all-day brunch favourites including buttermilk pancakes, smashed avocado toast, vegetarian lasagne and tempeh tofu salad. Wash these down with freshly-made juices, smoothies and, of course, freshly-brewed coffee at the bar.
