The Crispy Hainanese Chicken Burger will be available from August 5

From Nasi Lemak to Ha Cheong Gai burgers, McDonald’s is well known for taking local favourites and mixing them up into something really special every year during National Day and this year is no different. This week, the fast-food chain announced that they would be collaborating with Singaporean actor Ben Yeo to introduce a Crispy Hainanese Chicken Burger which is supposed to taste like our favourite Chicken Rice

The new burger features a juicy and crispy fried chicken patty topped with crunchy cabbage, carrots and lettuce. The combination is paired with mayonnaise, ginger and a special garlic chilli sauce. 

The burger comes with a dark sweet sauce that is meant to be drizzled on the delicious creation and it is already creating much buzz ahead of its launch on August 5 with fans speculating about the taste of it. 

In addition to the burger, McDonald’s is also launching a limited-edition Kopi Frappe as well as Crisscut Fries and their Banana Pies ahead of National Day.

McDonald’s and Yeo have certainly outdone themselves with their creative burger creation but they are far from the only ones in Singapore turning local favourites into burgers this National Day. 1. Hard Rock Cafe: Briyani Beef Burger

Briyani is flavourful, spicy and one of the best comfort foods when you’re feeling really hungry. This National Day, Hard Rock Cafe has taken our favourite Indian dish and reimagined it to form the Briyani Beef Burger.

Imagine all that local flavour packed into a beef patty, topped with pickled vegetables and served with papadum. You really just have to try it when it becomes available from August 6 to August 9. 

The best part is that every order of their Briyani burgers come with a cold and refreshing Tiger Beer that is perfect for the heat.

2. Fatburger: Chilli Crab Fish Burger

In a marriage of the century, Fatburger has decided to combine our favourite sweet, spicy and sticky chilli crab sauce with a crispy fish fillet to form their unique National Day special, the Chilli Crab Fish Burger.

You’ll want to pair this local treat with their sinful Chilli Crab Skinny Fries for a meal that you will be craving long after it goes off their menu on August 31.

3. Sofitel Singapore City Centre: Mala Szechuan Burger

Mala is probably one of Singapore’s absolute favourite, spicy comfort food options so of course, chef Andrew Chong of Sofitel Singapore City Centre had to reimagine the dish as a burger to bring a splash of comfort to our favourite guilty pleasure. 

The Mala Szechuan Burger features roasted corn-fed chicken, sauteed bok choy, smoked Comte cheese, Szechuan mayonnaise and fiery mala sauce. It comes with a side of spicy fries and is the perfect option for a rainy day.

4. Burger King: Rendang Beef Burger

As National Day rolls around, Burger King has decided to bring back their famous Rendang Angus Beef Burgers that features double flame-grilled beef patties that are slathered with spicy and tangy Rendang sauce, onions and placed on toasted sesame seed buns.

The burger is also available with chicken instead of beef and is totally a must-have this National Day.

5. Swensens: Nasi Lemak Burger

Who can forget that time in 2017 when McDonald’s decided to mix it up by introducing their Nasi Lemak burger that completely sold out in less than two weeks because it was just so popular. 

Though McDonald’s only brought it back once more in 2019, they certainly started a trend here after Singaporeans realised that Nasi Lemak and burgers actually made a pretty fantastic combination. 

This National Day, Swensens is introducing their So Shiok! set which includes Nasi Lemak pizza with boneless wings, Laksa and Chilli Crab dips and, the star of the show, their Nasi Lemak burger which features a crispy chicken patty, cucumbers, spicy sambal and a beautiful fried egg right on top of all that goodness.
