The brainchild of renowned chefs Jakob and Gabi Mogensen serves reimagined versions of the iconic cookies as well as delectable cakes, tarts and other savoury items
Danish butter cookies (also known as småkager) packed in round blue tins are iconic treats that are well-loved around the world. Pastry chefs Jakob and Gabi Mogensen, who both have a sweet tooth, wanted to take it to another level so they co-founded famed pastry shop Leckerbaer in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2014.
“The idea was never to duplicate these iconic cookies, but to create a new memory with the confectionaries we create,” explains Jakob, adding that the flavours they created were inspired by the traditional recipe but married with Nordic ingredients such as berries and sea buckthorn.

This sparked a culinary revival of the popular confection in Denmark, which, six years on, has reached Singapore with its first overseas outlet in partnership with F&B company, Caerus Holding. Its CEO, Vijay Pillai, confessed that they wanted to “retain the authenticity of the brand by keeping to its Nordic roots” so that they could also introduce the real Danish experience and lifestyle to their customers.
That means you won’t be seeing any local-inspired flavours soon; instead, you’ll get a taste of Jakob and Gabi’s original inventions as well as seasonal offerings. Available all year round are core staples such as raspberry, where two buttery cookies sandwich raspberry jam; vanilla, piqued with notes of citrusy calamansi; and caramel, elevated with a tart blueberry meringue.
