La Takorea, Created on The Apprentice: One Championship Edition, Launches in Singapore
Identify the cuisine gaps in today's global food delivery ecosystem. That was the challenge given to the competing teams on the fourth episode of the hit reality show, The Apprentice: One Championship Edition. With that, they were tasked to create a digital restaurant brand within 48 hours in collaboration with global food technology company TiffinLabs. On top of that, they had to showcase plant-based chicken Tindle on their menus, which was developed by food tech company Next Gen.
Joy Koh from Singapore, Nazee Sajedi from the US, Jessica Ramella from Venezuela, Niraj Puran Rao from India, Clinton Tudor from New Zealand, Kexin Ye from Germany, and Paulina Purnomowati from Indonesia were part of the winning team who came up with La Takorea.
It's the world's first digital Korean-Mexican restaurant developed on-air within 48 hours, which launched in Singapore today (April 9) via GrabFood delivery. By working with the TiffinLabs chefs, including co-founder and President of Operations Shaun Smithson (with over 30 years of experience in the F&B field) and R&D chef Terence Chuah, the team came up with a concise menu of eight delicious and healthier dishes that comprise dumplings, tacos and baos. Some of their creations include Swipe Right Tindle Taco and Superlike Tindle Bao, which both feature an assortment of ingredients including the main ingredient of Tindle, crunchy cabbage slaw, spicy gochujang aioli, kimchi, and delicious nacho cheese.
“Developing this digital restaurant was a real eye-opener for us, as it made us completely rethink the way food can be conceptualised and brought to consumers in a way that transformed their dining experience," explained Koh, who elaborated that having access to TiffinLabs' data analytics was critical to their success and they were able to analyse food trends and understand what the consumers really wanted.
Kishin RK, the founder and chairman of TiffinLabs, commented that the winning team's La Takorea is an exciting example of how the "use of analytics, creativity and culinary arts" can result in innovative meals that can be "created, scaled and reproduced without the need of a physical store". He added: "This is a ground-breaking concept that offers tremendous value to consumers and revolutionises the way food is developed and delivered." La Takorea is now available for delivery in most areas across Singapore.
