Voted for by Takada’s fellow chefs, the accolade honours his contributions to Asia’s culinary scene

The chefs have spoken. And this year’s recipient of the peer-voted Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice award by the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is Japanese chef Yusuke Takada of La Cime.

Takada is well-known in the industry for blending classic French cooking techniques with seasonal Japanese ingredients, thanks to his culinary background. He studied at the Tsuji Culinary Institute in Osaka, then moved to Paris in 2007 to further hone his skills at acclaimed establishments such as Restaurant Le Taillevent and Le Meurice.

He returned to Osaka in 2010 to establish La Cime (French for ‘the peak’), where he serves refined dishes that take cues from his childhood. Says Drew William, content director at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants: “Chef Takada’s dishes honour his Japanese upbringing and demonstrate his respect for local ingredients and hyper-seasonality, while highlighting his craftsmanship and artistry.”

The restaurant debuted on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2018 in the 17th spot, earning itself the Highest New Entry Award. It moved three places up to the 14th position in the 2019 list, establishing itself as one of the must-visit dining destinations for global gourmands who fly to Osaka.

Takada will be honoured on March 14, in a virtual awards ceremony that will be streamed on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ Facebook page and YouTube channel. The live stream starts at 4pm.
