Here Are The Top Dining Destinations In Europe This Year
In the 2018 edition of Opinionated About Dining's Top 100 European Restaurants 2018, which weighs votes based on the experience of reviewers, chef Andreas Caminada's modern European cuisine received the highest stamp of approval from the world's most worldly taste buds.
One of the restaurant's signature dishes is beef tongue, which mirrors the five taste sensations (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, umami) and lamb belly with sea buckthorn-pickled vegetables.
Interestingly, the win comes while the restaurant and castle-hotel remain closed during a five-month "creative break." Castle Schauenstein re-opens June 1.
Rounding out the top three spots are Faviken, in Jarpen, Sweden, and Etxebarri, in Axpe, Spain.
A look at the top 100 list, meanwhile, could be described as a reshuffling of some of the usual suspects in the world of European fine dining.
Likewise, Italy's Osteria Francescana, which was also rated No. 1 on the same list in 2016, takes the 15th spot with OAD.
With three addresses on the top 10 list, Spain leads the country count, followed by Sweden, with two restaurants.
