The results are in for the 51-100 List for this year's edition of the World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards, which is due to take place on October 5 in the Belgian city of Antwerp. After a one-year hiatus in observance of the havoc that the pandemic wrought upon the F&B industry globally, the return of the hotly-anticipated awards ceremony is preceded by the unveiling of its extended list, which celebrates restaurants selected from 22 countries.

13 restaurants are new to the list, while Japan made for the largest contingent from a single country, numbering at five restaurants overall. While this year saw the inclusion of more Asian venues than ever before, the majority of the restaurants still hailed from Europe—21 to be exact. 

Of the 13 Asian restaurants on the list, only three hail from Hong Kong. VEA ranked the highest at 71st, up from 113th in 2019's 51-120 List (which marked the 120th anniversary of main event sponsor S.Pellegrino); followed by Belon, which jumped to 88th place from 96th; and finally Amber, which moved up two places to settle at 100th place. Notably, all three are heavily influenced by the tenets of French cuisine; it remains to be seen if local stalwarts of Cantonese cooking like The Chairman and Lung King Heen—which in 2019 ranked at 41st and 88th respectively—will make the 50 Best list this year.
