Preface

Preface is a coffee shop that moonlights as a space for learning––with the design said to be the founder's own personal take of how the future classroom will look like. The coffee shop is built with the idea that knowledge thrives on the joy of learning, and what better way to learn than with a coffee at hand?

Other than its caffeinated offerings, you can also find a reading corner, knowledge wall and seating and facilities to interact and mingle with other coffee lovers. The menu is a no-fuss selection of black and white coffee, single origin and a single house special. But if you're looking for something different, a range of non-coffee options are also available.

Be Coffee

Be Coffee shouldn't be too hard to find. The red sign with the cafe's name in the window, reminiscent of Hong Kong's mini-bus sign, ensure that this cafe will catch your eye.

This tiny coffee bar is helmed by MeowBox Cafe which owns a cat-themed cafe in Ngau Tau Kok. It's not a surprise that their intricate animal latte art is the main draw here.

Passepartout Brunch & Cafe

Causeway Bay is filled with busy streets, so if you're after a much-needed escape from the frenzy of the district, this cosy sidewalk cafe is the place to be. Passepartout Brunch & Cafe can be easy to miss with no sign to catch your attention––but don't be fooled, the interiors are aesthetically pleasing, drawing in an Instagram crowd with its colourful accents, large windows and sidewalk seating.

We recommend its signature drink, the miso caramel latte, as well as the Cino which can be enjoyed either hot or cold. If you'd like to grab a quick bite, daily desserts are also available, along with brunch-style dishes named after major cities such as Hong Kong, Paris and London.

Cafe Corridor is a hidden cafe that promises to be well-worth looking out for. Loved for its Melbourne-style coffee, this place offers some of the best aromatic coffees in Causeway Bay, along with a selection of tea, smoothies and sodas.

For those in need for a meal, we also recommend their snack and all-day breakfast items, such as peanut butter and banana toast and the Italian omelette.

18 Grams

This unassuming coffee shop started as a small espresso bar in Causeway Bay, but due to its great coffee offerings, branches elsewhere in Hong Kong have now popped up. And while the coffee selection there is just as great, nothing is better than visiting the branch that started it all.

18 Grams is managed by a world-class barista judge which is why the coffee is made using fresh, locally-roasted coffee beans. The espresso-based coffee is some of the best on offer––along with being a perfect match for their homemade desserts.

Artista Perfetto

Artista Perfetto was founded in 2012 in Taipei by a group of award-winning baristas. After years of serving artisanal coffee in Taiwan, the team decided to expand to Hong Kong.

This sleek cafe is nestled in a cosy corner in Causeway Bay, offering a wide range of speciality coffee from classic black and white, to lattes and cappuccinos. The simple menu is ideal for those who just want a quick cup of coffee while visiting Causeway Bay.

Mamaday

Mamaday, meaning "so so" in Cantonese, is a quirky cafe with roots in Taipei. Thanks to its hipster-like interiors from various signages, colourful artworks to cheeky quotes on the walls, the cafe attracts a large crowd of diners.

But if the aesthetics aren't enough to impress, the unique food menu will––especially the pizza served with salted egg.

Project C

The minimalist, circular window outside Project C, combined with the Brutalist-inspired, concrete exterior is certainly welcomed by cafe-goers, if the numerous photos of coffee cups placed in the facade on Instagram are anything to go by. Located in Hysan Avenue, Project C's sleek design certainly stands out among its fashionable neighbours, but beyond just looking good, this coffee shop has everything from filter coffee to espresso and cold-brew on offer.

Each order comes with a sheet of tasting notes and other information for the resident coffee lover. Other than its usual menu, Project C is also the first in Hong Kong to specialise in oat brew, a perfect choice for those looking for milk alternatives.

The Alp at Lounge Hakuba

The Alp at Lounge Hakuba is a lot of things: a cafe offering great food, a coffee shop with a number of brews, a bar at night and a shisha lounge. This Japanese-inspired cafe offers an après-ski vibe so if you're longing to travel to snowy Hakuba, this might just soothe your wanderlust. The interiors are reminiscent of a cute wooden cabin, just like the ones you'd find in ski resorts in Japan. You can choose to be seated at the low tables by the sofa, the normal dining seats or at the outdoor patio to enjoy some sun.

A selection of coffees are on offer, but their signature drink is the hojicha. Whether you're looking for lunch or dinner, this cafe offers both light bites and indulgent meals. The portobello sando is a solid choice, and the beef mountain donburi packs a punch. While the food seems to lean towards modern Japanese fusion, you might also detect hints of Nepali flavours, a unique and unlikely combination thanks to the cafe's Nepali chef.

San Ka La

San Ka La is a cafe by day and a shisha bar by night. The coffee shop is conceived by the same team behind Fong Waa Parlour and Morokok, with the same industrial, hipster vibe. Just like its sister establishment, you'll find a crowd of Instagrammers flocking here to spice up their feed.

The food menu also proves popular, offering a blend of East-meets-West dishes. As the coffee shop is also part brewery, the drinks are in a class of their own. The Barista Specials are the favourite, but a range of other drinks are available: from red velvet latte to the more innovative osmanthus with pear honey mix.
