1. Aotake
Take a short walk from the JR Kyoto Station and you’ll find Aotake, a tea cafe housed in a 100-year-old matchiya (traditional Japanese house) offering a unique tea experience. The menu puts the spotlight on locally grown tea and artisanal sweets. Its tea selection is handpicked and changes depending on the season. On top of Japanese teas, you’ll also get to try black leaf tea and Taiwanese tea. Enjoy your comforting cup with traditional Japanese-style desserts like chewy tofu shiratama; peach and hazelnut tart; and shaved ice.
