The awards season in Asia’s culinary scene has officially begun when Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants revealed yesterday the list of establishments that made it into its extended 51 to 100 ranking. The list was announced ahead of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony that is set to take place in Seoul, South Korea on March 26.

Singapore and Tokyo lead the pack with eight entries each—with two and three new additions respectively. These are contemporary Chinese restaurants Peach Blossoms, which is at No. 74, and modern Singaporean restaurant Mustard Seed at No. 81 from Singapore. From Tokyo, the fresh additions are Myoujyaku, which lands at No. 76 for its vegetable-focused seasonal cuisine;  Maz, celebrated chef Virgilio Martinez’s Peruvian fine dining restaurant, which debuts at No. 69; and Crony, which enters the ranking at No. 58 spot for its playful tasting menus influenced by French, Scandinavian and North American cuisines.

This includes Haoma, a sustainable fine-dining neo Indian cuisine helmed by Indian chef Deepanker Khosl (who received the Champions of Change Award at The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2021), which sits at No. 90.

Other cities represented in the ranking include Hong Kong with six entries; Seoul which claimed five spots; and Shanghai and Mumbai which have three entries each. Meanwhile, Colombo, Gurugram, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Manila, New Delhi, Shenzhen and Toyama each has one entry on the list.

The extended ranking is a great showcase of the diversity of cuisines in Asia, with more cities included on the list. Shares William Drew, director of content at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants: “This underscores our ongoing commitment to championing the remarkable gastronomic talent thriving in the region. With 12 new entries and representation from 16 Asian cities, this extended list offers gourmets worldwide a selection of establishments to savour during their travels and a variety of exceptional experiences to choose from.”

The 51 to 100 list was finalised through the votes of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy. The Academy is made up of 318 members spanning food writers, critics, chefs, restaurateurs and culinary experts.
