Merchant Brothers has worked with Portuguese farms and businesses to bring in over 100 retail items and has teamed up with Cater Connect to create a sumptuous menu for delivery

Not being able to travel to Portugal has got us craving for its delicious cuisine—from its ocean-fresh seafood prepared in various ways to its delectable confections such as Portuguese tarts. Thankfully we can savour the bountiful offerings this European country has to offer thanks to Singapore-based fine food purveyor Merchant Brothers.

“We have curated an extensive selection of Portuguese retail items and authentic dishes that can be conveniently delivered to your doorstep,” explains Ray Poh, who co-founded the business during circuit breaker last year with Portuguese José Rodrigues. Together with their team, they worked closely with family-run farms and businesses to bring in over 100 fresh produce, ingredients and retail items to Singapore. These are available on Pantry Selects as well as selected online delivery platforms such as Amazon Fresh and Pandamart.

Portuguese fare is famed for its seafood, and you will be glad to know that there’s a wide selection of seafood spanning monkfish, sardines, squid tentacles as well as the coveted bacalhau codfish (desalted). But for work from home situations where you’re too busy to prep food from scratch, opt for ready-to-cook meals such as salted cod with fries and salted cod with potato and cream.

Still working on becoming a master chef in the kitchen? You may even stock up on baking and cooking essentials—the likes of extra virgin olive il from Herdade dos Coteis; balsamic vinegars, sauces and spices from Paladin; and fruit jams and olive spreads from Prisca.

And if you need to wind down after a long day, why not order a Portuguese feast instead? Merchant Brothers has also partnered with catering company CaterConnect to whip up signature dishes that will be delivered right to your doorstep.

Standouts on the menu include bacalhau à brás, Cristiano Ronaldo’s favourite dish made with fried potatoes, shredded bacalhau codfish and scrambled eggs, served with green olives and cherry tomatoes. Or, if it’s a rainy day, you can have the açorda de bacalhau "bread porridge”. What you get is a hollowed-out sourdough rye bread where you can pour in the rich seafood stew of charred red capsicum, cherry tomatoes, clams, prawns, chunks of Bacalhau Codfish Loins (desalted) and monkfish.
