The gastro bar's relaxed setting is made for a lovely dinner for two, especially with the unparalleled skyline view it offers

Whether you’re trying to get to know each other better over dinner or craving a quiet night out sans kids, finding a restaurant with the right mix of romance and revelry is key.

And, perhaps, something less formal but replete with all the delicious perks of a gourmet meal is the way to go. Besides, what you really want is a chance to share a delicious repast and perhaps a heartfelt conversation in a comfortable setting—one that’s elegant yet relaxed, coupled with magnificent views of the city skyline to match.

Boasting just the sought of panorama—specifically, the Marina Bay area—Cook & Brew on the 33rd floor of The Westin Singapore offers these with panache. The setting, from its raw wooden floors, lavish dark red leather bar stools and a sumptuous black marble-topped bar, boasts the elegance of a classic gastro bar with a contemporary twist; it’s the perfect backdrop to a casual feast of local and international comfort foods, which you can pair with a carefully curated selection of craft beers, wines and cocktails.

Delectably Chic

Traditionally, the best time to head out for one of these dinners is a Saturday. And here at Cook & Brew, there are added advantages to making it a regular affair. Dubbed Saturdates, there are five slots available for each of the three seatings, at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. Come dressed in your prettiest get-up or your most comfortable pair of jeans; regardless, you’ll be starting the evening with a glass of sparkling—because it’s always recommended.

It’s the perfect aperitif to kick off what promises to be a deliciously romantic meal, spread across three courses (at $98 per couple) that you can choose to enjoy as a menu of western or local fare, or a combination of both—each dish thoughtfully crafted with a clever twist.

Choose to start with a hearty bowl of luscious black mussels served in a traditional spicy laksa broth. Or have something lighter, like a Caesar salad of kale and barley with white anchovies, roasted garlic, pancetta and parmesan cheese, topped with pumpernickel croutons.

There's even a choice of Pad Thai fries—a creative dish that combines deep-fried sweet potato sticks with fresh prawns, chilli and dried Sakura shrimps, tossed in a sweet and spicy Pad Thai sauce—should you wish to spice things up early.

If you’re looking to keep the meal green and lean, a main course option of handmade ricotta cavatelli (or little pasta shells) is a flavourful vegetarian amalgamation of mushrooms, manchego cheese, cauliflower and pumpkin seeds, piqued with the addition of dried chillies.

And should a craving for a more familiar yet elevated nod to your favourite heartland classics strike—the fried bee hoon with char siew made with pork jowl, crispy pork belly and sambal prawns will be understandably hard to resist.

If, however, you’re feeling a need to spoil yourself or impress your partner, Cook & Brew’s Surf & Turf Platter ($158 per couple) is a perfect pairing of premium seafood and prime beef, specifically the Aspen Ridge USDA Prime striploin and Nova Scotia lobster, accompanied by fingerling mash and finished with bone marrow jus.
