Food lovers have already begun to frequent Marina One, the development project designed by supergreen architecture champion Christopher Ingenhoven for its oasis of dining concepts spanning four levels. This includes Wakanui, the established New Zealand steak and lamb restaurant overlooking the lush gardenscape, Green Heart, as well as local meat specialist Nude Grill.
More restaurants are set to open in the coming days—just in time for the Chinese New Year festivities—and one name we’re excited about is Chinese stalwart Majestic Restaurant, which will have its official grand opening on January 26.
Established in 2006, the award-wining modern Chinese restaurant in the talented hands of chef Yong Bing Ngen will continue to dish out its extensive showcase of mostly authentic Cantonese flavours with a modern touch. And that includes a full selection of handmade dim sum for lunch, with highlights such as the lobster soup dumpling, radish roll with chicken, and organic brown rice roll with prawn, Hakka style.

The a la carte menu will undoubtedly impress with specialities such as the Majestic Trio Combination of crispy wasabi prawn, pan-seared foie gras and Peking duck served with organic greens. Speaking of which, fans will be glad to know that one of its bestsellers—the roasted Ireland Silver Hill duck in Peking style—is on the menu. As is the elevated stewed “mee sua”, prepared with baby abalone and crab roe.
Don’t skip the luscious desserts which include the chilled mango pudding with black glutinous rice, double boiled Tianjin pear with honey pomelo citrus (served hot or cold), and almond puree with egg white.
With so much to choose from, a Chinese New Year meal here is a great opportunity to savour a variety. There’s both an individual menu for a minimum of two persons dining, and set menus for four to 10 persons; available from February 5 to March 2. If something less traditional strikes your fancy, or a craving for Japanese fare needs satisfying, Kazu: Sushi, Grill, Sake, which opened just this month, is the other hotly anticipated prospect to make its home at Marina One The Heart. Chef Ichimaya will be preparing his style of sushi, backed by more than a decade of experience at top Japanese restaurants. The freshest catch prepared as sushi or sashimi comes straight from Hokkaido, while most other seafood and vegetables are flown in from Japan three times a week; a number of omakase menus as well as premium donburi sets are also available.
Highlights from the grill menu include A4 Omi wagyu beef, which is also served as part of a robatayaki set that is completed by an assortment of nigiri sushi. The menu is extensive, and is complemented by an equally broad selection of fine sake.
It’s not your typical choice for a reunion dinner, it might prove a satisfying alternative. What’s more, enjoy a cup of sake on the house with every dinner set purchased (valid from January 19 to March 2).
